Space enthusiast, billionaire and serial entrepreneur Elon Musk has gained a sizeable reputation for his out-there ideas on how to move the world along with technology and his impressive willingness to actually follow through on many of them.

For example, Musk once tweeted his frustration with LA traffic, which soon mutated into an idea for 'The Boring Company' – a legitimate venture that initially planned to bore a series of tunnels beneath the surface of LA, and has since branched out into selling novelty hats and flamethrowers.

Meanwhile, his proposal for a 'hyperloop' – a sci-fi-influenced tube that would launch passengers to their destinations at 600 miles per hour – has inspired the launch of a handful of companies that are trying to make the technology a reality, including Richard Branson's Virgin Hyperloop One.

Read on for the companies Elon Musk's involved with, from the spacefaring SpaceX to his electric car business Tesla and more.
