Readers might be familiar with the Bitcoin-buying frenzy of 2017 - but increasingly it's worth looking out for something called an Initial Coin Offering, or an ICO.

An ICO is a way to crowdfund using cryptocurrencies. Thanks to the unregulated nature of many cryptocurrencies and high propensity for risk – and sometimes theft – the investor’s market has a reputation of being something of a wild west. But plenty of investors are getting involved.

Recently the US Securities Exchange Commission warned of this route to investment, but some astonishing capital has been raised for crypto startups, including record-breaking numbers in the hundreds of millions. Read on for the biggest ICOs.
