The high demand and short supply of tech talent has made some lucrative careers available in the sector. But the rapid rate of innovation means the IT roles and skills that companies require can quickly change.

Tech professionals of today and tomorrow can ensure they're in the best position to take advantage of future developments, Craig Freedberg, associate director at Robert Half Technology UK, tells Techworld.

"With the fourth industrial revolution approaching, the modern workplace is in a state of flux and is responding to new challenges and priorities," he says. "New job types are in high demand, with more employers hiring for specialist roles such as DevOps, data visualisation, data management and analytics.

"Meanwhile, traditional roles are evolving in response to the technology that is revolutionising the modern workplace."
