Technopop, a new tech festival for teenagers launching this spring in East London, is calling on those working in the technology industry to inspire the next generation of potential employees by engaging with them and showcasing their latest technological innovations.
The festival, which will take place through March and April at The International Quarter, Stratford City, London, aims to educate young people about what a career in science, technology, design and innovation is all about.
Technopop managing director Jo Tastker described the event as a "unique and exciting eight-week pop-up festival promoting science, technology, design and innovation to young people and the general public."
Tasker claimed that Technopop is the ideal platform to: launch a new product/service/technology; market test a pilot service or prototype with immediate/live feedback; build brand awareness and market to under 19's, educational organisations, teachers and families; and engage with the next generation of techies and IT talent.
Tech companies that are already involved with the festival include software firm Autodesk, Olympic Park redesigners iCity, incubator Level 39 and mobile payment provider iZettle.
In order to make the festival more fun, firms are being asked to set up a range of interactive activities framed around science, technology, engineering and maths. The organisers behind Technopop said: "There will be an interactive, immersive technology exhibition running alongside eight themed weeks of educational activity, aimed at schools, teachers and families.”
The designated themes include topics such as “Inspiring Women” in the second week and “Built Environment” in the fourth.
Meanwhile, planned activities include live interactive demos; digital hackathons/coding sessions; workshops; seminars and debates; a careers fair/Milkround; and introductions to crowdfunding.
The event is free for schools, colleges and youth groups to attend. Tickets are available now on the Technopop website.
