Microsoft will update a recent security patch that is causing some version of Internet Explorer to crash.
The patch, MS06-042, fixed several security vulnerabilities but has sparked complaints from people using Explorer 6 with Windows XP SP1 or Windows 2000 SP4. Since most users will have updated beyond these service packs, the problem should be relatively confined.
Microsoft has produced a "hotfix" for the problem, which can be downloaded from its website. The problem occurs when visiting a website that uses HTTP 1.1 and compression, Microsoft said.
Microsoft released 12 security fixes on 8 August, nine of which were critical.
