Volta, a provider of data centres to the financial, media and content industries, has introduced Openreach, BT’s local access network business, to its data centre at the heart of London’s Tech City.

Volta said the dedicated fibre link from Openreach will provide a range of high bandwidth options, from 10Mbps up to multiple 10Gbps services, thereby enabling customers to access their mission critical information stored at the data centre via fast, secure and resilient backhaul links.

Openreach is the 17th carrier to be introduced to Volta's Central London data centre, which was already served by the likes of Vodafone, Colt and Verizon.

Volta aims to serve latency-sensitive and high-density users in the City, the West End media community and the entrepreneurial community of Tech City, from the former Reuters building located just off Old Street Roundabout in Shoreditch.

Volta believes that the central London area it operates in is under-supplied with low-latency services. Apart from Interxion, which has a small data centre facility in Brick Lane, most of the major providers are either out in Docklands or west of London, and there is very limited opportunity to create new data centres.
