Sepaton has announced support for Symantec's NetBackup OpenStorage (OST) application programming interface (API). The companu has also announced a global reseller deal with Hitachi Data Systems
Sepaton will be supporting the technology through its S2100(r)-ES2 virtual tape library and DeltaStor deduplication . allowing customers back up to disk without emulating tape,
According to Sepaton's VP of worldwide marketing, Jay Kramer, this move will the give the company the chance "to treat disk like disk" and allow companies to protect their investment. "It's our coming out party to be more than a virtual tape library," he said.
He said that the technology, which would ship in the second half of the year, was very complementary to Symantec's, offering more extensive reporting capabilities.
Under the terms of the HDS agreement, Sepaton will be employing the Hitachi Adaptable Modular Storage 2100, as the foundation of its new series of data protection products. "It's a very synergistic relationship," said Kramer. "There's a complete field alliance between HDS and Sepaton. "
He said that the company chose HDS after evaluating a range of products. "The AMS provides a five 9s high availability, up to 2TB of storage and full RAID6 capability. What was particularly attractive was the way that Hitachi could scale for our large customers – we have some installations that run to a Petabyte of storage."
