NetGear has announced additions to its range of network-attached storage boxes, introducing new 750GB drives to the range for the first time.
Catchily named 'ReadyNAS NV+' followed by the storage capacity, they're available in 1.5TB, 2TB, 3TB and 4TB versions, with the 4TB offering including a dual gigabit NIC plus rackmount option. The boxes are aimed at “prosumers” and small and medium businesses.
According to NetGear the products possess improved manageability and usability provided by a new UI that's common across the company's switches, routers and VPN firewall products, plus better performance and peripheral support. They also feature Gigabit Ethernet interfaces with jumbo frames support, which can boost throughput to and from the network backbone, and RAID 0, 1, 5 with hot-swappable drives. They also support NetGear’s proprietary X-RAID technology which provides is claimed to automate RAID expansion so users can scale from one to four disks and beyond. The company claims support for Windows, Macintosh and Linux clients, as well as accessibility via SSH.
Other features include volume sizes larger than 2TB, online X-RAID volume expansion, and the option to save and restore system configurations for easier multiple unit deployments. The ReadyNAS provides support for VMware via NFS over TCP, and can act as a network UPS server for other ReadyNAS systems, which enables graceful shutdowns when sharing the same UPS. Users can also share NTFS-formatted USB disks that plug into the ReadyNAS.
Prices start at US$1,099 - UK prices for the new products have yet to be announced.
