Iomega has produced a new external hard drive line offering up to 1TB of storage.
The Desktop Hard Drive XL Series is Mac and PC-compatible and features a four-drive enclosure, each containing a 250GB drive, for $899.95.
The drive connects to a host computer using either FireWire 800, FireWire 400 or USB 2.0, and measures 6.4 x 8 x 12.5 inches. It supports Serial ATA, runs at 7200rpm and has 8MB of cache. Also included is a copy of Dantz Retrospect Express software, to use the drive for backup and archival.
It is designed for "families and road warriors" who have large stores of audio, video and camera snaps, according to the company.
"Projects like video editing push the limits of today's storage drives, particularly as the market shifts towards high-definition video, so Iomega created the XL Series to erase the bottleneck that a single drive represents in terms of power and performance," said Iomega VP Lee Williams.
The drive will store up to 18,500 hours of music, 4,000,000 photos, or 1,500 hours of video, the company said. It is on sale from today.
