In its latest push on rationalising its server offerings, IBM is set to launch two data storage virtualisation products. The company said that TotalStorage Storage Area Network (SAN) Volume Controller and its SAN Integration Server would be released in July. The SAN Volume Controller enables storage devices to work together so they can be used more efficiently. IBM is also launching a product that is aimed at novice SANs users. The SAN integration has been developed for companies who are looking to install the first SAN. The product includes a broad range of products, which includes the SAN Volume Controller, switches and storage disks. But the news is not so good for users of heterogeneous systems: the company said the new products would work only with IBM storage devices – although there are plans to develop upgrades that would enable other vendors’ products to be connected. .
