HP has rescheduled its Technology Forum conference which was due to take place in the hurriance-ravaged city of New Orleans next month.

The company said on Monday it was re-evaluating whether to go ahead with the event but following the recent devastation has called it off and will "determine a time in the fall [autumn] when we can hold the conference".

The statement didn't indicate whether HP still has any hope of holding the conference in New Orleans or will seek another location. The company said it will announce the details of a new plan for HP Technology Forum 2005 by 9 September. It added that it is indefinitely extending the cancellation period for would-be attendees in order to give users time to assess their schedules and decide whether they can go to a rescheduled conference.

All hotel reservations that were booked will be automatically cancelled without financial penalty, HP said. The company is also working with major airlines to transfer any non-refundable airline tickets so they can be used for the rescheduled conference.

HP Technology Forum was the first technical conference for HP users sponsored by the company itself.
