EMC has bought acquired data replications and protection specialist, Kashya.

The deal will provide EMC with heterogeneous virtualisation and continuous data protection technologies that it can add to its portfolio of replication and back-up and recovery products.

Kashya is to become part of EMC's Software Group, led by Dave DeWalt. "Information protection is a chief concern for customers today," said DeWalt. "By combining Kashya's rich portfolio of heterogeneous replication software with our industry leading virtualisation and continuous data protection technologies, EMC is enhancing the market's broadest set of capabilities for virtualising and safeguarding the world's information."

Kashya's disaster recovery and snap replication technology will be added to EMC's Invista virtualisation product, while the company's continuous data protection software will be added to EMC's RecoverPoint software.
