Alcatel has produced two extensions to its edge switch and router lines: a 12-slot, 400Gbit/s version of its 7450 Ethernet Service Switch (ESS), and a four-slot, 9Gbit/s version of the 7710 Service Router (SR).
The 7450 ESS is an Ethernet/MPLS routing switch for video aggregation in service provider networks and shares the same operating system and interfaces as the existing ESS line, Alcatel said. Combined with the company's 7750 SR, the switch helped Alcatel leapfrog Juniper and take share from Cisco in the IP aggregation edge routing market.
The four-slot version of the 7710 SR is targeted at businesses, and fixed and mobile service providers. The platform provides interface types ranging from DS-1 to Gigabit Ethernet. The Alcatel's SR product line now extends from 9Gbit/s to 400Gbit/s for routing applications across access, multi-service edge and core networks.
Both switch and router are available now.
