Vizioncore has introduced a new version of its Foglight virtualisation monitoring product. vFoglight Pro builds on the existing strengths of vFoglight SE (standard edition) but offers more features said Roger Baskerville, vice president Vizioncore EMEA.
He highlighted the flexibility that it would give to IT departments, particularly in the way that IT services are paid for. "The Pro version adds chargeback for those IT departments who want to cost departments for their IT usage," he said. "There are many ways that this could be broken down, it could be by number of virtual machines, by time spent, by processors, by storage or whatever".
He said that that flexibility could be shown in other ways too. "vFoglight Pro does offer system administrators a degree of customisation so that they can tailor reports to fit their own requirements."
Baskerville said that Foglight was a product that offered users some powerful management capabilities.
"vFoglight Pro is not just about monitoring, it's about diagnosing and solving," he said, adding that sys admins could use the monitoring capabilities supplied by VMware but warned that these were not adequate. "Standard monitoring from VMware will tell you the system is slowing down but not why - Pro gives very specific information on the whole environment," he said.
He added that another flexible feature was the product's ability to monitor both physical and virtual machines to provide ease-of-use to large organisations.
VFoglightPro is available now; the UK pricing is £389 per socket up to six cores and including 1 year's support.
