Symantec will buy asset management software maker Altiris for $830 million.
Symantec said it will merge technology from Altiris into its end-point security products, which deal with compliance, security and backup issues. Altiris also produces software that tracks cost and maintenance issues for hardware such as desktops, servers and mobile devices.
Altiris stockholders will receive $33 per share of common stock. The deal, which should close in the second calendar quarter of this year, is subject to approval by Altiris stockholders and regulators.
