NTL has made an £800 million bid for Virgin Mobile, raising the possibility of a combined Internet-television-phone-mobile service for the first time.
NTL already licences the Virgin brand in the broadband market, and was in discussions to extend that to television and phone lines. If the deal goes ahead, Virgin Mobile shareholders will be given NTL shares, and a new telco giant will be created in the UK market, with ninen million customers.
NTL said it statement that it "intends to use the Virgin brand to offer a quadruple play of internet, television and fixed line and mobile telephony".
