HP has recalled 135,000 laptop batteries after some melted and others charred the laptop case.
The lithium ion rechargeable battery packs are used in the HP Pavilion, Compaq Presario, HP Compaq and Compaq Evo laptops. The battery is made by a third-party vendor that HP would not identify.
The company received 16 reports of batteries overheating, with four cases of damage to the laptops. The affected packs were sold from March 2004 to May 2005 at both retail stores and online.
Customers can checked if their battery pack is part of the recall here. A new battery will be mailed in five to 10 days, and a postage-paid envelope will be provided to return the old one, HP said.
