Ford has launched a $10,000 global app competition aimed at reducing road congestion in London.
For the Traffic Tamer App Challenge, there is a grand prize reward of $10,000, with second, third, and bonus and popular choice prizes totalling $15,000.
No specific API, SDK, or data integration is required to enter the contest but the use of Ford's OpenXC platform - basically an API to your car that is open source and runs on a combination of Android and Arduino - "is encouraged".
Entrants may use platforms such as iOS, Android, Blackberry, Windows Mobile, the web (desktop or mobile), Window PC or Mac, said Ford.
The challenge will be judged by a panel of industry professionals, including Paul Mascarenas, the chief technical officer and VP of Ford, as well as K Venkatesh Prasad, the senior technical leader at Ford.
The challenge submission window is open until 15 January, and winners will be announced in early February.
