Software company QlickView has come up with the perfect response to all those who think that IT can never come up with anything useful - short of fixing PCs and printers.

To show the ability of its business intelligence software to simplify complicated data and present the key facts flexibly, the company has devised an online World Cup application; Kick it, Qlick it, Love it, to provide football fans with plenty of ammunition once the tournament is under way

The application, available here, offers a host of statistics on the World Cup teams and players, right from their routes to the finals down to the number of yellow cards they’ve received.

“Globally, the World Cup is a bigger event than the Olympics. When you work for an international company full of enthusiastic football fans, this is how you spend your nights and weekends,” said Andrew Honess, UK managing director for QlikTech. “QlikView provides businesses a tremendous amount of flexibility and analytic capability, but as you can see from the Kick It application, it’s also a fantastic way for fans to track their favourite teams and players throughout the World Cup."

The company could be leaving itself as a hostage to fortune. Daringly, it predicts the scores and scorers for each game so it’s possible to do check out the accuracy of the software: if the company's to be believed, we should bet big on England beating Paraguay 3-1.

If only the effectiveness of all business software could be so easily ascertained.
