Windows has featured a built in clock for many years, but there has never been a timer, stopwatch or alarm available. This oversight means that you will need to turn to third party software if you want to be able to be notified of when it reaches a particular time or when a certain period has elapsed. Cool Timer is a free timer tool – and more – that could cater for your needs.
Despite the name giving the impression that this is a timer only, Cool Timer is in fact a timer, a stopwatch and an alarm all in one. The program is very self-explanatory. Stopwatch mode can be used to time how long different activities and events take, the timer can be used to sound an alarm after a certain number of seconds, minutes or hours has passed, and the alarm can be used to sound and alert when a [articular time it reached.
There are few options to concern yourself with. After you have selected which mode the program should be used in, you can select the sound that should be used as your alarm. You can choose between having a image displayed in the program window, or opt to show a large digitial clock that you are able to read from the other side of the room. With the ability to prevent Widows from hibernating, the option of displaying a message as well as playing sounds and wonderful ease of use, Cool Timer is one cool timer.
Note: during the installation you will be invited to install the Harmony Hollow Software Toolbar. This browser toolbar include a search facility as well as access to your email inbox, weather forecast and more. If you would prefer that this was not installed, take care to deselect this option. You’ll also be invited to make Internet Explorer your default web browser, but you can opt out of this if you would prefer to keep your own browser.
Version 220.127.116.11 brings:
- Added option to display progress bar on main program window to show time counting down.
- Various other bug fixes.
Not the most attractive of tools – it’s rather childish and old-fashioned – but it does the job well.
