In Jon Toigo's excellent Drunken Data blog he points a straight finger at major vendor drive array costs. Here's a quote:-

"It makes no sense to me that a 1TB usable upgrade to an HP (HDS Lightning rebranded) array is costing my client $53K when I can buy a 1TB disk from Hitachi or Seagate for $750. What makes HP so special? Or Network Appliance, with a filer that costs $83K for 2TB?"

Techworld just covered an Iomega NAS product story. Its new 200r 1TB Server will be available later this month for $1,899 (about £950).
