Acopia has recruited senior execs from NetApp and Revivio as it builds up its infrastructure. Tim Pitcher moves from NetApp where he was VP sales for Northern EMEA and vice president of global account sales. At Acopia he becomes VP for international sales. Joining him at Acopia is Kirby Wadsworth, newly appointed senior VP for marketing and business development. He transfers over from Revivio where he had a similar role.
Both Revivio and NetApp are growing. NetApp has just introduced its ONTAP GX system which leads on to NAS file virtualisation, the area where Acopia has a lead. Revivio is known for continuous data protection, another growing storage field.
Expect NAS file virtualisation to boom with Acopia and Isilon making the headlines. There are a host of other second-generation NAS suppliers such as Montilio, NeoPath and OnStor. IP SAN functions can and are being added to these new NAS systems. The whole field is bursting with energy, inventiveness and sales growth.
