Interoperability for Virtualisation : Reducing the Complexity

Interoperability for Virtualisation : Reducing the Complexity

Tuesday 5th February 2008 @ 8:00am – Lunch, Le Méridien Piccadilly, London

Key Industry Analyst Announced

John Humphreys is an expert in virtualisation. As Program Vice President with IDC's Enterprise Platform Group, he manages the range of virtualisation products deployed in both data centre and client environments.

More enterprises are turning to virtualisation to solve data centre capacity problems, according to Forrester, companies have already virtualised 24 percent of their servers, up to 48 percent in two years.

Virtualisation is not the easiest technology to grasp and enterprises going down that path have already discovered that it’s not always easy to find people with the right skills. And that complexity is increased if the data centre contains a variety of technologies.

There may be some very good reasons for an organisation to operate a mixture of Windows and Linux - it can make your organisation more flexible and change-ready by simplifying, automating and commoditising your platforms and processes - but simplicity isn’t one of them.

This half-day seminar looks to change that. Attendees will learn that a mixture of operating systems can be an effective way of operating; that it is possible for interoperability to reduce complexity and that there is an easier path to virtualisation.

Why you should attend

You will learn from a series of experts, both from those who supply products and those who have successfully implemented them.

In just one morning, you will rapidly gather answers to such questions as:

  • What areas of the data centre can benefit most from virtualisation?
  • How can you get started today in making your data centre more manageable?
  • What is involved in running Windows and Linux virtualised environments?
  • What are the potential pitfalls in adopting widespread virtualisation?
