The Hawking HWREG1 is a 54G repeater and so works along the same lines as the Linksys WRE54G but is about 40 percent cheaper.
Hawking Technologies makes by far the widest range of devices designed to extend the range of wireless networks, more than half a dozen at the last count.
The Hawking HWREG1 is a 54G repeater and so works along the same lines as the Linksys WRE54G but is about 40 percent cheaper. It’s a cute looking ‘mound’ with a single antenna at the rear.
Again, the Hawking HWREG1 is designed to be set up the first time via a wired connection, after which it can be cast free and located where the signal begins to fade. It, too, can be wall mounted.
Installation was executed using the setup wizard on the install CD but, unlike the Linksys, the Hawking HWREG1 had absolutely no trouble locating the repeater on the network.
We were then able to specify the SSID of the network we wanted it to extend, and its security details, and the Hawking HWREG1 was able to connect to our Wi-Fi network and extend it.
You wind up with two Wireless SSIDs rather than one but that’s the only real down side to using the Hawking HWREG1.
