Another system based on the E8400 processor, Chillblast’s Fusion Hawk is similar to the Chillblast Fusion Rogue, which earned a Recommended award in our July issue. The sub-£500 category is more competitive than ever, however, and impressive rival PCs limit the Hawk to a fourth-place finish.

With a respectable 116 WorldBench 6 points, performance is more than adequate for this price range, while 2GB of DDR2 RAM is standard. The Chillblast Fusion Hawk's games performance is decent, thanks to the GeForce 8600 GTS graphics card. At lower resolutions, this outperforms all but the Eclipse Evolution i84n88GS’s GeForce 8800 GS.

The Chillblast Fusion Hawk's Octigen Case Pro 337 is a tidy looking and robust, if somewhat unassuming, chassis. The Logitech S-120 speakers provide better sound quality than built-in monitor speakers, but they don’t come with a subwoofer. This isn’t an ideal choice for music or movies. The hugely popular Hannspree XM New York display adds visual performance and style.
