The Droid Comic Viewer by Robot Comics is hands-down the best comic viewing app for any Android user. The app is quite powerful and is compatible with ACV, BMP, CBR/RAR, CBZ/ZIP, JPEG, and PNG files.

In honor of the upcoming theatrical release of Scott Pilgrim vs the World this Friday (August 13), I decided to read the comic that inspired the movie entirely on my Droid phone. The experience was quite enjoyable, and I was pleased with versatility and customisability of the application.

The Droid Comic Viewer boasts no fewer than 19 customisable options and 18 actions. To my delight, the app allows customisation of hotkeys as well as of gestures. By taking advantage of the multitouch screen, you can easily zoom into any comic panel. Simple gestures permit easy navigation from page to page, and being able to jump pages through the built-in browser makes for a pleasant comic viewing experience.

The application also has an auto-bookmark feature that comes into play when you exit the application. Another unique feature is the ability to share your favorite comic pages via Facebook, Bump, text message or email. In this age of popularised image sharing, as seen on 4chan and tinypic, any Android user can contribute to the meme-creating community.

Though some users have complained of crashing from time to time, I didn't run into any problems while reading the entirety of the Scott Pilgrim comic book series with this app. From time to time, I did encounter some lag when switching from page to page. Also, the app did not reset the zoom feature from page to page, which proved irritating when I had to zoom out each time to read the next panel. I imagine this will be an easy fix in the next iteration of Droid Comic Viewer.

OUR VERDICT

Despite its several customisable options and impressive features, this application is accessible to any novice. For those who want a very specific comic-viewing experience, you'll find all the customisability you need. Despite its flaws, I highly recommend the Droid Comic Viewer to readers who want some mobility with their comic book experience. The app is a great addition to any comic fan's arsenal.
