The data held by Britain’s the UK Higher Education Institutions (HEI) sector has now reached hundreds of Petabytes and could be nudging as much as 1 Exabyte in total, according to UK data archiving firm Arkivum. Much of the growth is coming from research data with the rest formed from institutional data. Some researchers account for 5TB each with large universities having more than 1,000 such people. Note: data volumes are Arkivum estimates.
