The best-paying languages in Western Europe are Ruby, C# and Node.js, according to a study by Stack Overflow Careers.

Employers are happy to fork out for developers with experience using niche or emerging technologies, the study found. A shortage of specific skills is one factor that leads to companies paying top dollar for specific languages.

However there are probably other more complex reasons behind the figures, for example well-paid developers having the luxury to try out new technologies, the report said.

The figures have been converted from US dollars to the British pound.
