Sun Microsystems was the most coveted tech company this year. IBM raised a few eyebrows when it tried to acquire the server maker early this year. In April, IBM withdrew an offer for Sun valued at around $6.85bn (around $9.40 per Sun share) after Sun terminated negotiations.
In the same month, Oracle suddenly jumped in the fray with a $7. 4bn offer that trumped IBM. What followed was anger from My SQL users and probes by regulators. Months later, the deal is still under investigation by EU regulators.
