EMC has released a new range of storage products for small and medium-sized businesses.

Called Making Storage Simple, the new product line introduces a number of packages that combine EMC hardware, software and services.

"EMC is announcing a customer-based approach to simplify how mid-sized enterprises and SMB customers acquire, deploy and manage their information storage," said marketing director Mike Wytenus. "These packages are meant to make storage simple for them."

The EMC Express Solutions are packages that include Clariion disk arrays, NetWin 110 or NS500 network-attached storage (NAS) appliances and Centera, which archives content-addressable storage. The software packages available include EMC’s Visual SRM storage resource management package, PowerPath, Dantz Retrospect, Legato Networker, Clariion SnapView, EmailXtender Archive Edition and DiskXtender, as well as FullTime Replistor, SANCopy, MirrorView/A and MirrorView/S.

There are several packages available:

  • Express Solutions for Networked Storage, which allow customers to consolidate their storage and manage it centrally
  • Express Solutions for Backup and Recovery, which let customers improve the reliability and speed of backup and recovery
  • Express Solutions for Archiving, which let customers store online data and comply with regulatory requirements
  • Express Solutions for Business Protection, which provides remote copying of data that can be recovered if the primary site fails

The EMC Express Solutions for Networked Storage include three optional configurations: a direct-attached storage implementation consisting of an Clariion AX100 and Visual SRM; a NAS configuration that includes a NetWin110 or NS500 and Visual SRM; and a storage area network (SAN) configuration consisting of an EMC Clariion AX100, CX300, 500 or 700 array combined with Visual SRM and its PowerPath software, which allows multiple path failover and load balancing.

Each of the other EMC Express Solutions also have DAS, NAS and SAN implementation options.

EMC claims that small and medium-sized businesses want to buy integrated packages rather than individual point products. The company estimates that these businesses typically have a storage budget of $40,000 to $1.6 million, and that they generally buy from value-added distributors and resellers who can offer installation, configuration and maintenance services. EMC estimates that SMBs account for 40 percent of the total storage market and that this segment is growing at 9.5 percent per year.

The company will offer these packages through its partners and resellers starting at $5,995. They are available now.
