Dell has been the first to take advantage of a new range of products officially announced by EMC today, by launching a storage advice service to tie-in with the low-end storage.

The company will sell EMC's CX300, CX500 and CX700 arrays and provide a pre-sales phone service to enable customers to discuss, and decide on their SAN requirements, with a Dell employee before placing an order.

Dell is manufacturing the CX300 itself. Both the CX300 and the CX500 offer twice the capacity of the replaced CX200 and CX400 products, as well as 70 and 100 per cent increase in performance, respectively.

The CX700 offers 25 per cent more performance than the replaced CX600 but the capacity stays the same. Pal Kalsi, European product manager for Dell EMC SANs, said customers needed more capacity and performance at the CX300 and 500 levels. At the CX600 level they were asking for more performance, he said, but not more capacity.

Data protection is available through EMC's SnapView, SAN Copy and MirrorView products.
