BorderWare is to offer email, instant messaging and web security in a single appliance.

Called the BorderWare Security Platform, the integrated product eases administration and lowers the cost of ownership associated with point products that secure only one aspect of internet communication, according to company officials.

BorderWare Security Platform includes the vendor’s existing email security appliance (formerly known as MXtreme but renamed the BorderWare E-mail Security Gateway), along with the new Web Security Gateway and IM Security Gateway. The integrated appliance lets IT managers create and maintain one set of policies to deploy across email, web and IM, according to BorderWare.

Features of the platform include virus, spam, malware, spyware and phishing protection across email, IM and web traffic; up-to-date threat information via integration with BorderWare Security Network, a real-time service that monitors threats across multiple internet protocols; outbound content control to ensure sensitive information does not leave an organisation without authorisation; and on-demand scalability by clustering appliances on a network.

Although the BorderWare Security Platform was designed as an integrated product, customers can purchase only the modules they need and add more modules as need dictates.

BorderWare Security Platform is priced starting at $3,780. Sold individually, the E-mail Security Gateway starts at $2,520; the IM Security Gateway starts at $1,765; and the Web Security Gateway starts at $1,765.

BorderWare plans to demonstrate the BorderWare Security Platform at its booth during Interop Las Vegas next week.
