Not to be outdone by Kinect's midnight launch, Activision shot out a press release announcing a massive November 4 launch event. The headliner? Metallica.

Call of Duty: Black Ops hits shelves next week on November 9, but if you can get to Santa Monica Airport's Hangar 8 tomorrow, you'll catch the show. Aside from Metallica live, the Black Ops launch event plans to honour six branches of the Armed Forces and raise $1 million for non-profit charity organisation Call of Duty Endowment.

The Call of Duty Endowment recently donated $25,000 to a veteran-serving charity and raised $50,000 for another on Memorial Day 2010. The organisation seeks to help returning soldiers transition to civilian life and find jobs by donating to programmes that offer support, counselling and job placement services.

We reached out to Activision to clarify how the money will be raised at the event. We've never heard of a launch event with a cover charge, but come on, this is Metallica. Details on other, less star-studded launch events aren't available yet, however, we're pretty sure those will be next week when the game launches.
