Adding Jet power to the WAN
Its new WANJet software can accelerate file services, e-mail, data replication, and Web applications over WANs ranging from 64 kbit/s to 622 Mbit/s, according to Swan Labs. The software runs on the company's existing hardware appliances which cost from around £1100

WANJet includes Swan Lab's Session Matrix architecture, which is claimed to give them full application knowledge and Layer 5 network awareness, plus its traffic-accelerating Transparent Data Reduction technology. As well as reducing latency and improving application performance, Swan Labs said that WANjet can provide SSL-based site to site encryption.

Don't just issue policies - enforce them too
Ensuring policy compliance is the aim of a hardware/software combination put together by specialist distributor Unipalm. The company said that putting the two together means that customers can not only apply and enforce policies, but they can also track breaches and confirm that users are up to date with policies.

It has paired PolicyMatter software, which lets organisations confirm that employees have read and signed up to key policies, with a hardware appliance from Blue Coat that applies those policies by implementing real controls on their Internet access. When the appliance detects a policy breach, it alerts PolicyMatter and prevents Internet access until the user has re-confirmed their understanding of - and agreement with - current policy.

Making traffic simpler to manage
Traffic management is now easier to deploy than ever, claimed Zeus Technology as it added three new appliances to its Zeus Extensible Traffic Manager (ZXTM) range, namely the ZXTM 2000 LB entry-level load balancer and the ZXTM 5000 and 7000 traffic managers. Zeus said the appliances are pre-configured for ease of set-up, and can either be supplied as rack-mounted hardware or just as software.

If supplied as hardware, the basic model features a single 64-bit processor, while the two high-end models run on dual Opteron systems for additional bandwidth. The latter two also include additional traffic optimisation and management features, such as Zeus's TrafficScript scripting language and its TrafficCluster scalability software, which allows them to be clustered, not merely paired.
