Cisco has named its new chief information officer - Rebecca Jacoby.
The 11-year Cisco veteran was previously vice president of customer service and operational systems. She had been handling some CIO roles In that role while former CIO Brad Boston was shifting to a new position.
Cisco is the dominant networking vendor with 50,000 employees worldwide and well known for using its own technology and promoting the benefits it has delivered in-house. Jacoby will manage IT strategy and operations for the whole company and oversee a staff of 1,800.
Jacoby has held several jobs at Cisco, including VP of manufacturing and of customer service and operational systems. She helped re-engineer several processes in the company to improve efficiency and give employees and customers better service. Before joining Cisco, she worked at Ungermann Bass, Xidex and Amdahl.
Earlier this year, Boston began moving into a new position in charge of Cisco's global government solutions group, which works with government customers and system integrators around the world. Since then, he has shared CIO responsibilities with Jacoby.
