NetSuite has developed tools to allow iPhone users to remotely log in and access NetSuite's applications through a role-based interface, despite analysts' judgement that iPhones are not fit for business use.

The link, called SuitePhone, lets users view invoice, accounts receivable and payroll information on the iPhone, NetSuite said. Sales personnel can tap into NetSuite's CRM functions to enter leads, file expense reports and view the sales pipeline when on the road carrying the Apple device.

NetSuite also announced plans to add support for Apple's Safari browser to the hosted service. With NetSuite's AJAX-based Web interface, users can access drop-down menus, call up portlets and do inline editing in Safari, the vendor said.

"Apple has traditionally lacked the software applications required to address the needs of running a sophisticated business," said Zach Nelson, CEO of NetSuite.

The SuitePhone service and the native Safari browser support are available now. Rival Etelos also recently added iPhone support to its CRM services.
