Dell is set to enter the increasingly popular ultra-mobile market and is looking to take on Asus's Eee PC in a head-to-head battle.

The computer manufacturer was forced to come clean on its blog after chief executive Michael Dell was spotted sporting the mini laptop at the recent D: All Things Digital event in California.

Very few details of the device, which will join other recent mini-laptop releases including the HP 2133 Mini Note, are available at the moment. It is thought the device will use an Intel Atom processor and feature an 8.9in screen as well as three USB ports, a card reader, VGA out, and Ethernet connection. It is also rumoured that two versions will be available; one running Windows XP and one featuring the Linux Ubuntu operating system.

A range of different coloured cases, similar to those available for Dell's larger Inspiron 1525 laptop is also a possibility.

No details of a release date are available.
