Fujitsu Siemens is offering free synchronous data mirroring software worth EUR 2700 (£1800) when you buy at least one each of its Primergy servers and FibreCAT storage systems. It says it wants to help customers build fail-safe and high-availability systems.
The Windows-based software package, called DuplexDataManager, combines multipath software which lets a server access its data via a secondary Fibre Channel connection should the first one fail, and an application called DuplexWrite which replicates data by writing it to two storage systems simultaneously, even if they are in different locations.
The company said it wants to help customers build disaster-tolerant configurations - the fact that it means selling twice as much storage, and potentially more servers too, is presumably just an incidental side-effect. The free software offer, called Replication Now!, is available online from April 1 until June 30, 2007.
"Ensuring that IT runs smoothly, particularly when it comes to servers and storage systems, is a decisive factor in helping ensure business success," said Dr Helmut Beck, Fujitsu Siemens' VP for storage. "The DuplexDataManager replication software is an ideal addition, as it helps to guarantee IT availability even in the event of a disaster."
A company spokesman added that the minimum hardware spend needed to qualify for the Replication Now! offer would be around EUR 5000 (£3400). That's an entry-level Primergy server plus a FibreCAT SX60 or SX80, he said.
