The John Lewis Partnership, which operates John Lewis department stores and Waitrose supermarkets, has become the latest retailer to deploy Google Apps.
The announcement, made today at Google Atmosphere, the company’s annual enterprise conference, will see roughly 30,000 employees at both John Lewis and Waitrose migrated onto Google’s cloud-based collaboration platform.
John Lewis CIO Paul Coby said: “We rolled out Google Apps for the Retail Support platform to 30,000 employees in just six weeks, enabling them to access and manage information on the go, in real time and on any device.”
Google Apps includes tools such as Gmail, Calendar, Hangouts, Drive, Docs, Sheets and Slides, among others.
In addition to email and sharing procedural instructions, John Lewis is using Google Apps to facilitate communication around the department store’s strategic direction and overall vision for the business.
Cheryl Millington, CIO of Waitrose, added that Google Apps is already making it for staff to communicate, collaborate and share ideas, while also improving business processes.
