Transport and entertainment apps are the leading contenders so far in the Vodafone App Star competition, although there are still a few weeks to get entries in said the mobile operator. Developers have been invited to submit apps on any location-based topic, for a first prize of 25,000 per country. The apps can be submitted to any one of eight mobile markets across Europe, including the UK and Ireland.
"We've been really impressed by the quality of apps that have been submitted to our competition. We're still seeing some great entrants as developers across Europe continue to share their apps with us right up to the deadline. It's been particularly great to see so many local apps being created for specific markets," said Lee Epting, director of content services at Vodafone Group.
Entrants to Vodafone App Star so far, include an app to allow users to book and hire cars and a Dutch app that helps people locate their parked cars - a boon to all those drivers who are trying to retrace their steps after a heavy night. There are also plenty of apps aimed at music fans preparing for the summer festivals.
